'You may have the universe if I may have Italy.' – Giuseppe Verdi, composer
Italy has captured my soul. Each time I visit I fall in love just a little more. Puglia gets under your skin immediately. Not as wealthy as other areas of Italy and certainly not as advanced technologically and yet it's charm overflows and envelopes you like a warm blanket in the midst of winter. Tiny pastel towns with an abundance of flowers, balconies, shutters and small cafes appear through the mostly dead, olive trees, killed by a disease called Xyella Fastidiosa. Many hundreds of farmers have lost their livelihoods and sadly several have taken their own lives. There is a real sense of history in Puglia and yet time seems to stand still as you explore. It is a place I will never forget. The images in this collection aim to provide the viewer with a sense of that history but also a sense of the 'triste'.
'Italy was where the soul went to find calm and love, and I wanted to hold the best of it in the palm of my hand.' – Lisa Brennan-Jobs
